High Quality Patios & Paths Installed in Manchester

A patio is only as good as what sits under it. We dig out to the right depth, lay and compact a proper sub-base, then bed every slab or block so it stays level and sheds rainwater away from the house.

We're a family-run business based in Failsworth, laying patios and paths for homeowners and commercial clients across Manchester and Greater Manchester. Whether you want a small seating area by the back door or a full garden layout with paths and steps, we'll help you pick the material and design that suits the space.

Every job starts with a free visit, measuring up and a written quote, with no obligation.

Popular patio surfaces we lay

Three of our most requested patio types have their own pages, with more on how each one is laid and looked after.

Patio paving materials for Manchester gardens

Each material looks, wears and weathers differently. We'll explain how each one suits your garden, the way you use it and how much upkeep you're happy with.

Porcelain Patios

Dense, low-porosity tiles that resist staining and hold their colour. Porcelain needs a primer on the back and a full mortar bed to bond properly, and that is how we lay it.

Indian Sandstone

A natural stone with varied tones and riven or sawn finishes. Every pack differs slightly, so we blend slabs from several packs as we lay for an even, natural spread of colour.

Granite Paving Stones

Very hard wearing, with a fine speckled finish that suits modern gardens. Granite is heavy and needs clean, accurate cuts, so it is set on a solid mortar bed.

Block Paving Patios

Small concrete or clay blocks laid in patterns such as herringbone or basketweave. Individual blocks can be lifted and relaid, and they tie in well with a block paved drive.

Marble Flagstones

A smooth, refined stone for a more formal look. Marble is laid on a full bed with tight joints, and we'll explain its upkeep honestly before you commit to it.

Gravel & Shingle

A free-draining, low-fuss option for seating areas and paths. We lay a weed membrane and fix firm edging so the stones stay where they should.

How we carry out the work

How we lay a new patio

The same careful steps go into every patio, whatever the size or material.

Survey and design

We measure the area, check levels and drainage, find the damp-proof course on the house and agree the layout and material with you.

Dig out and sub-base

Old paving, turf and soil come out to the right depth. A compacted stone sub-base goes in, set with a gentle fall so rain runs away from the house.

Laying and pointing

Slabs or blocks are bedded and checked for level as we go, then the joints are pointed or sanded so the surface is firm and weeds have nowhere to start.

Clean down and handover

We clean off the surface, clear away waste and leave the garden tidy, then review the completed work with you and confirm everything has been done as agreed.

New patio questions

Which patio material is best for a Manchester garden?

It depends on how you use the space and how much upkeep you want. Porcelain is the easiest to keep clean, sandstone has the most natural character and block paving is very hard wearing. We'll bring options and explain them at the free visit.

Why does the patio need to sit below the damp-proof course?

If paving is laid too high, rain can splash above the damp-proof course and cause damp inside the house. We set the finished level safely below it and add a channel drain where the levels are tight.

How long does a new patio take?

A typical back garden patio takes a few days, depending on its size, the material and the weather. We'll give you a realistic idea when we quote and keep you updated if rain holds things up.

Can you lay a new patio over my old one?

Usually not. Old paving is rarely at the right level or sound enough to build on, so we lift it, check the ground and lay a fresh sub-base. That's what stops the new patio from moving.

Do you remove the waste?

Yes. Old slabs, soil and rubble are cleared from site as part of the job, and the price for that is included in your written quote.
