Local Manchester Bricklaying Contractors

Good brickwork starts below ground. Every wall we build sits on a concrete footing sized for its height and the ground it stands on, with a damp-proof course and frost-resistant bricks so it copes with a wet Manchester winter.

We build front boundary walls, garden walls, raised beds, piers, brick borders and steps for homeowners and commercial clients across Greater Manchester. Where you want new brickwork to match the house or an existing wall, we take care over the brick, the bond and the mortar colour.

Every job starts with a free visit and a written, no-obligation quote.

Brick Wall Styles & Colours in Manchester

Bricks come in reds, buffs, greys, blues and multi tones, with smooth, textured or handmade-style faces. The bond changes the look too, from simple stretcher bond to the more traditional Flemish or English garden wall bond.

We finish walls with a brick-on-edge or stone coping to shed rain, and can add piers, curves, decorative courses or gate pillars. If you want a wall to blend in with older brickwork, we will look for the closest match we can source.

Can You Repair My Brick Walls in Manchester?

In many cases, yes. Crumbling mortar can be raked out and repointed, frost-damaged bricks can be cut out and replaced, and loose or missing copings can be rebedded so rain stops getting into the wall.

A wall that is leaning, cracked right through or pushed over by tree roots usually has a problem with its footing. Patching that only hides it for a while, so we'll explain honestly whether a section needs taking down and rebuilding on a new foundation.

How we carry out the work

How we build a new brick wall

No pressure at any stage, and nothing is booked until you have the price in writing.

Survey and set out

We check the ground, the boundary line and any nearby drains or tree roots, then agree the height, brick and bond with you.

Dig and pour the footing

A trench is dug to firm ground and a concrete footing is poured to suit the height and length of the wall.

Build the wall

The brickwork is built up course by course, checked for line and level, with a damp-proof course and movement joints where they are needed.

Coping and clean up

A coping is fixed to keep water out, joints are finished neatly and all spoil and offcuts are taken away.

Brick wall questions

Do garden walls need foundations?

Yes. Even a low garden wall needs a concrete footing on firm ground, or it can crack and lean as the soil moves. The size of the footing depends on the height of the wall and the ground conditions.

Can you match my existing brickwork?

We will do our best to find the closest brick and mortar colour, and match the bond and joint finish too. Older bricks can be hard to source, so we will show you options before we start.

Do you build raised beds in brick?

Yes. Brick raised beds are built on footings like any other wall, with drainage gaps so the soil does not hold water against the brickwork, and a coping you can sit on if you like.

Why is my old wall crumbling?

The usual causes are failed pointing, bricks that are not frost-resistant, or a missing coping that lets rain soak into the wall. We can tell you which it is and whether repair or rebuilding makes more sense.
